Artist Against Hate Event

I was so honored to be part of the Anti-Defamation League's PREMIER ART EXHIBITION event this year! I painted the piece especially for this event - themed 'A World Without Hate' - the painting was auctioned off to a lucky bidder (don't know who won yet).

The piece got a lot of great compliments - so I was truly grateful! My ART along with the others will be available to view for the next 3 days June 6th-9th at the Benrimon Gallery here in NYC! Exciting!

All the artists involved :

Can you spot my husband below?

What I wrote about my painting & the theme in the guidebook:

Food: Lemon, Ricotta and Almond Cake

Hi everyone! It is Alison from Heart of Gold & Luxury and I am here to share an amazing dessert perfect for the warm summer months ahead.  Now that the thermometer is finally beginning to rise, I find myself lightening up my meals and increasing the amount of vegetables and fruit I consume since the fresh market is over-flowing with so much bounty.

When it comes to dessert I also prefer to make recipes that are not heavy but still are flavorful and delicious and one of my new favorites is this Lemon, Ricotta and Almond Flourless Cake. Before diving into this recipe, I thought flourless cakes had to involve chocolate (and believe me, there is nothing wrong with that), but I was wrong.

This cake has an amazing texture, thanks to the almond flour while the ricotta cheese makes it incredibly moist.  Once you make this recipe it will definitely find it's way into your summer dessert repertoire.

Lemon, Ricotta and Almond Cake
8 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
1 1/4 cups super fine sugar
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
2 tablespoons lemon rind
1 tablespoon lemon juice, freshly squeezed
4 eggs, divided
2 cups almond flour
1 1/2 cups ricotta cheese
3/4 cup sliced almonds, for garnish
powdered sugar, for garnish

Directions: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Line the bottom of a spring-foam pan with parchment paper, butter sides of pan and parchment paper.  Place butter, sugar, vanilla extract, lemon rind and juice into a large mixing bowl. With electric mixer beat until mixture is light and fluffy, about five minutes.  Add the four egg yolks and mix for about three minutes until completely combined.  In another bowl, with clean beaters, beat egg whites until they have reached stiff peaks.  Fold half of the egg whites into the mixture until incorporated then add the almond flour, fold until combined.

Add remaining egg whites, ricotta and continue to fold batter until all ingredients have come together.  Pour into spring-foam pan and allow to cook for 45 to 50 minutes or until the cake is firm to the touch and when a knife is inserted into the center and it comes out clean.  If needed cover the cake with tin foil to prevent burning.  Once done allow to cool completely in pan.  Once cooled remove and sprinkle with sliced almonds and powdered sugar.

Fashion: CheckerBoard Print

Hi everyone, its Carlinn here from Superficialgirls and today we are checking out a fun spring and summer trend! Checker board print is a quirky but classy way to spruce up your wardrobe for spring and summer.

Think retro sixties with a classic twist and if you don't want to overdo it stick to black and white and add pops of solid color. A sleek fitted dress or a big bold handbag might work best with this print but if you feel like going all out and having fun with it there are so many options.

Here are some of my favorite checked picks!

1.Checked mary jane heel   2.Topshop checked umbrella   3.Marni handbag  4.Tibi dress   5.Michael Kors shorts

My Home, My Space

What is your favorite area in your home and why?

Hey! Laura here, sharing my favorite space with you! I decorated it for my sister and we both couldn't have been happier with the result! We had a really modest budget so I had to make sure we made each penny count! Luckily my sister totally trusted me to come up with anything, and knowing her she loves anything be achy and feminine, so I was inspired to create a space that reflected just that.

Our jump of point was the vintage faux bamboo bar cart, I found it at a thrift shop and new it had to be in her life! The space is about 500sq Ft, what it lacks in size it makes up in amazing natural lighting. We really wanted to play up the the whole beach vibe(without being to literal). I chose light shades of blues, and jades, some pale pink and lots of brass and gold. The sofa is from IKEA, the lamp and coffee table are thrifted.

The desk lamp is from Indigo, and the turquoise lamp on the side table is from HomeSense (Home Goods). Since we were working on a small budget and Ikea was a big part of that, I really didn't want it to look like every other apartment decorated with the same pieces. We thrift often, and go to vintage markets a lot to find unique pieces.

This place is super cozy, and everyone always remarks of how bright and feminine it feels! I think we achieved out goal for sure, and all for under $1500.

Cocoa & Hearts & ADL

Hey everyone - how's your Saturday going? It's sooo HOT here in the city, but I've managed to stay indoors working - thankfully!

Anyhow - some news for those who are interested in my Cocoa & Hearts paintings. This piece below is going to be auctioned off for charity at an ADL event (Anti-Defamation League).

Here's more info:

Award-winning and emerging New York artists volunteered their time and creative talents to produce works of art inspired by ADL’s centennial year theme of “Imagine a World Without Hate.” The powerful artworks will be displayed and auctioned at a fundraiser bringing together New York’s artistic community and those committed to ADL’s struggle against bigotry and hate.

The event will showcase 30 artists (including me) who created unique artworks including paintings, photos and mixed media that express their vision of a world without hate for the exhibit.

My painting is called "A Candy World" 51"x 48"- and it is currently on Paddle 8 for a pre-auction. It comes with a beautiful gold wood frame.  If you're interested in BIDDING on my painting below - you can go directly to this link.

You can also attend the live auction event on June 5th here in NYC - for tickets go here. Also, the painting will be on exhibition at Benrimon Contemporary gallery for all to view from June 6-8th - FREE to the public!
